Still Life Cafe - Independence, CA
On our way to Mammoth mountain, we wanted to make a little stop and have a coffee break. On this road you will not find a lot of places to stop because you have more wildness there than populated cities!
But without knowing, we stopped in the small city of Independence and we went to a Cafe owned by a very interesting French man: the Still Life Cafe (perfect name when you see the location).
When we entered, we had the feeling to be teletransported back in France in the old times, with pictures, frames, posters of the glorious French theatre years, a piano and the owner smoking a cigarette at the bar.
It was totally unexpected to find a place like this one in the middle of the desert. Because we are also French my boyfriend and I, we started to talk with the owner and he told us more about his story and why he ended up here: he came to L.A. when he was younger but was not a big fan of the crowded city, on a Christmas day he went on a trip into the Californian desert and felt it the was the place where he belongs. He never left. It's always amazing for me to hear such stories.
They serve French food there but we did not have time for a lunch, we will maybe go back one day to try their Onion soup!
