Plated.com - Home cooking concept
I wanted to try the home food delivery since quite a while because we don't really have this in France and I was curious about the concept.
When I saw a coupon on Gilt City, I decided it was a great opportunity to try. The coupon was available for the company Plated.com and I really liked the idea of what they offer: you choose some meals (new meals each week, land/sea/veggie options) but instead of delivering them to you all prepared and cooked, they send you all the ingredients that you will need to make the recipe, a paper with pictures and explanations to follow and you are the one to cook the meal.
It's a great way to discover new recipe and learn to make them, without having the hassle to go to different supermarkets to buy all the requested products (wich could be sometimes tricky, especially when you need specific spices or asian products not available at each corner).
Whith the Gilt coupon, I had the opportunity to choose 3 different meals (each one for 2 people servings) and then it was delivered to me by FedEx overnight in a refrigerated box.
Now let me show you the result of my food cerations below!
The refrigerated box.
First recipe: Lamb Kofta with Pistachios and Herb Salad
First recipe: Lamb Kofta with Pistachios and Herb salad
Easy, fast, when I opened the meat I thought it will not be enough for two people but finally it was more than enough.
The spice reminded me of the one use for couscous, I just loved the smell. The white sauce (to put at the end on top of the meal) that you will make with the rest of spices, lemon and the yoghurt is so yummy, god idea to re-use for a fresh summer salad with lemon seasoning.
Don't cook the meat too much to keep it a little juicy inside.
You will make two nice portions for 2 people.
Final grade: 10/10
Second recipe: Spicy Coconut Rice Noodle with Kale and Basil
Second recipe: Spicy Coconut Rice Noodles with Kale and Basil
Easy, but longer than 4-5 minutes for the sauce to thickened.
Not spicy. Basil is a Thai basil, so a sweeter taste one.
Rice noodles were cooked really fast, don't forget to rince them under cold water when cooked so it will stop the cooking pocess (you will get them warm again later when you will add them to the pan with the sauce).
Quantity will be good for 3 people or also enough for your next day lunch.
Final grade: 8/10 (I was expecting more spice flavor)
Third recipe: Seared Tempeh with Mizuna and Miso Slaw
Third recipe: Seared Ginger Soy Tempeh with Mizuna and Miso Slaw
Really easy to make and nice to discover a new ingredient to cook with: the tempeh (a traditional soy product originally from Indonesia. It is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form, source wikipedia).
The salad is made with Mizuna, a "delicate Japanese lettuce with serrated edges. A member of the mustard green family, it has both peppery and bitter flavor notes". Reminds me a little of he dandelion weed. I like this kind of strong flavored salad.
The sauce that goes with the salad is really good, good recipe to re-use for another salad.
Quantity is more than enough for 2, will be enough for 3 small eaters.
Final grade: 8/10 (tempeh is nice but I don't think I will include it in my eating routine).
